List of Needed Supplies for Natural Disasters
Common Natural Disasters
Non-perishable foods are needed for more reasons than a natural disaster such as power outages. If electricity is off for more than 8 hours, people may be in need of non-perishable food items. And it's a great idea to always have non-perishable foods stored away. The most common non-perishable foods are canned items, dry fruits, rice, pastas, bottle water, etc. Many places in the United States and other countries might have natural disasters. The most common natural disasters are: earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, landslides, wildfires, etc.
Items Needed in Case of Electricity Power Outages
- Flash lights
- Batteries
- Candles
- Matches or lighter
- Cellular phone
- Food
- Water
- Board games
- Transistor radio
- Next door neighbor's phone number
- etc.
Other things you will need during a power outage are a can opener, and a battery operated radio. Try to make sure the batteries are the right size for the radio; this may keep you updated with the news in your area during a natural disaster. Try and purchase 2 sets of batteries for your radio in case 1 set drains out.
If the gas is off in the home people will need a lighter or matches to light the candles. Make sure the lit candles are not near anything that is flammable such as curtains, beds, pillows or other flammable items. And if an electricity power outage happens during your bedtime, try to minimize the candles in the home to prevent a potential fire. You may want to buy candle that don’t drip wax outside of the candle holder, but instead drips candle wax inside of the candle holder. Preferable buy candles that burn inside of a glass holder.
The idea is to buy non-perishable foods that don't need to be cooked, and to store for a possible natural disaster.
Things you and your family can do during a power outage: unplug power cords throughout your home, play board games or listen to the radio.
An “Act of Kindness” is very much needed during natural disasters such as checking on the elder and the disabled in your neighborhood. A good way to do this is to have their phone number on hand ahead of time, before any natural disaster happens.
List of Non-Perishable Foods
- Canned meats such as: tuna, chili, chicken, Vienna sausage, Mackerel fish, sardines, etc.
- Canned fruit such as, pears, pineapple, peaches, cherries, etc.
- Other non- perishable food items are: beef jerky, ravioli, dried fruit such as cranberries, apricots, raisins, etc. And canned green beans yams, refried beans, diced tomatoes, soups, pudding cups, energy bars, dry cereals and boxed rice and pastas, powdered milk, powdered mashed potatoes, plastic spoons, and first aid kit, etc.
Many people of the Faith may believe that it is very important to keep the Holy Bible handy during a natural disaster; especially. After all, our Father in heaven can allow things to happen (good or bad), and He can also prevent and stop things from happening, but our part is to pray to Him and just "ask" in prayer.
Most of the non-perishable foods can be found at army surplus stores, local grocery stores, whole food stores, etc. The idea is to purchase foods that have a longer shelf life than other foods, to set up for storage in case of a natural disaster emergency.
Most army surplus stores have "bagged cookers" (meal, ready-to-eat heater) that you can steam rice and other simple foods in. The heater bags just require that you add a small amount of water, and just follow the directions on the heater bag for heating army surplus foods or rice.
All the items that’s mentioned in this article, keep the items in a certain closet or cabinets for easy access (easy to find) in case of a natural disaster emergency.
